About Unforgettable Media
Unforgettable Media is a small independent studio making two kinds of things: illustrated picture books, and browser games you can finish in a coffee break. The same obsession sits behind both — a strong hook, bright art, and something worth remembering at the end.
Why both
Books and games look like separate businesses and, commercially, they are. What they have in common is the constraint we care about: a child's attention is not owed to you. A picture book has about four pages to justify itself and a browser game has about fifteen seconds. Working in both formats keeps that honest, because neither one lets you coast on the goodwill you built somewhere else.
They have also started to overlap. Time Runner is set in the five locations from the picture book Switching Shoes — the playground, the house, the fair, the school and the city — in the book's own order. That was not a marketing idea. It came from noticing that the book already had a map in it.
Everything runs in a browser
Every game we make is built with web technology, which means it runs on a laptop, a phone, a tablet or a school Chromebook without a single install. That is a real constraint — the browser is a harder target than a console, and it rules out the kind of game that expects forty hours and a save file — and we accept it on purpose.
Millions of children have a locked-down school Chromebook as their main computer, and a huge amount of children's software is simply unavailable to them. A game that is a web page sidesteps that entirely. Our games also ask for no account, no profile, no chat and no uploads, which removes a whole category of thing a parent would otherwise have to think about. A game that collects nothing has very little to explain.
The longer versionWho the site is for
The books are made for children. The website and the store are directed at adults — the parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians and gift-givers doing the buying and, mostly, the reading aloud. That is why the book pages carry reading ages, read-together questions and honest notes about when a particular book is and is not the right tool, rather than just a cover and a price.
Teachers and librarians: get in touch about classroom licensing. We would rather sort out something workable than have you buy five copies of a PDF.
