Browser games

Every game here runs straight in the browser you are already using. There is nothing to download, no launcher, no account to create and nothing left behind on the device afterwards — you click, and it starts.

This page has two halves, and it is worth knowing which is which. Our arcade comes first — three games and a coloring book, written and hosted by us, carrying no advertising and no sign-up. Below it is the Learning Arcade: puzzle, word and learning games made by other studios, which we picked out one at a time. Those are hosted by the people who made them and they do carry their own ads. We keep the two halves clearly apart.

Browser-only is a deliberate choice. It means the games work on a school Chromebook, a shared family laptop, a phone in a waiting room and a tablet at a grandparent's house, all without asking anyone's permission to install something. It also means they are built for short sessions — a run, a match, a maze — rather than an evening.

  • Instant play, no install
  • No sign-up, no profile
  • Keyboard, mouse or touch

Made by us

Our arcade

Built here, hosted here. No ads, no sign-up, no third-party code — and each one has a full how-to-play guide. The coloring book is the learning one: five free pages of the Switching Shoes coloring book, words and all — the letters of the story are hollow, so a child learning to read can color a sentence one letter at a time.

Getting the best out of a browser game

Browser performance is the one part of this we do not control, so a few practical notes. Close other tabs before a run — these are timing games, and a dropped frame is a missed jump. On a phone, turn the device sideways, because every game here is laid out for landscape. If a game feels cramped in the window, use the fullscreen button on its page.

On a school-managed device the games will load as long as the domain is allowed by your school's filter. If it is blocked, that is set by the school and not something we can change from our end. And if a game runs badly on an older machine, it is worth trying a different browser before giving up — performance between browsers on the same computer can differ more than you would expect.

Why we build this way

Made by other studios

The Learning Arcade

Counting, spelling, spotting and puzzling, plus a coloring book of their own — a small shelf of games made by other studios, picked one at a time rather than pulled in by the catalog. They play right here on the page.

Everything in the Learning Arcade is hosted by the studio that made it, not by us. Each one shows its own advertising and has its own links out to other game sites. We check what we put here, but once one of them is open, what happens inside it is not ours to control. Nothing in our own arcade has any of that.

How these got picked

There are more than thirty thousand games in the catalog these come from, and we do not show you a feed of it. A feed would mean the line-up on a children's publisher's site changed on its own, and the category labels are not the safeguard they look like — the catalog's "Cooking" section includes two bartending games filed under an adult tag. So every game in the Learning Arcade was opened and looked at first, and the list only changes when we change it.

If something here does not belong on this site, we would rather hear about it than not.
